Friday Favourites #1: 10.03.14

Happy first Friday of October! Fall is officially here on the west coast and I am loving it! I have been super busy with work lately but thought I would join Heather at Housewife Glamour for my Friday Favourites this week!


  • Candy Cards
    This past weekend was Travis’ birthday! He was away on his actual birthday and we haven’t even gone out to celebrate yet but hopefully we will this weekend! He is a candy-aholic so I made him this candy candy card as one of his gifts! He loved it! I got the idea off of Pinterest and while we don’t have the best candy names in Canada compared to the US, I made do with what I could find!

  • Crunching Fall Leaves
    Fall is here and I love the sound of leaves crunching as I walk. Pretty soon it will be rainy here and that crunch will be gone so I am going to make the most of it while the while the weather is still nice!

  • Homemade Chili
    Travis and I made our first batch of homemade chill this week! I have been working a lot at dinner time lately so this chili is super easy for Travis to pull out of the freezer and heat up after he is done work! You can find my recipe here!10693825_722675257797899_344531499_a
  • LG 30×30 Fat Loss Shred Ebook
    I purchased Lauren Gleisberg’s 30×30 Fat Loss Shred Ebook the other day and started it yesterday morning! The workouts are only 30 minutes long and are mainly HIIT workouts which I am a huge fan of! I will update later on how I am liking this ebook but right now I feel like it will be a winner!IMG_5386
  • FitChickMik Instagram
    I finally caved and made this blog its own Instagram account. I haven’t been super vocal about this account because of how inconsistent I have been with writing posts but I am hoping that by making a separate Instagram account from my personal one, that I will be more consistent with writing posts and keeping the blog current! Five Things Friday #14

We are well into September and this has become apparent here on the west coast with the sudden weather change. We have had rain for the past few days but we are supposed to get one more warm weekend before Fall really starts and I am quite ok with this. 5 Things Making Me Happy

1. Football season is back. Three years ago I never thought I would be saying I am happy football season is back but since starting to date my boyfriend I have really grown to love the sport. He is currently working for the football team at the university we both attended and I love going to watch the games (especially when the weather is nice)!


2. I have taught myself how to crochet! Travis has been calling me a grandma but I actually love it! This is a toque (beanie) I recently crocheted!


3. I get to see my parents in less than 3 weeks! I haven’t seen them since the beginning of August but they will be coming over for my convocation! I can’t wait!

4. I am going back to high school! I recently finished my degree but right now I am upgrading some high school courses in order to hopefully apply for further schooling in the future!

5. Taylor Swifts song “Shake it Off“. I know I am a few weeks behind on discovering this song but I am absolutely obsessed!

5 Things I Ate/Drank

1. Pumpkin Muffins with Cream Cheese Filling. I cannot express to you how good these are! I two batches in three days because my boyfriend kept bringing them to share with his friends because they were so good! I even received some texts from his friends telling me how much they liked the muffins! The recipe I used can be found here and I followed it exactly as it appears. These muffins are seriously the bomb dot com!


2. Chai Tea. Since the weather has become cooler I have had chai tea every day. Something about chai screams Fall to me.

3. Amy’s Organic Lentil Vegetable Soup. I am a soup lover and this is the perfect chunky soup that is quick to prepare and tasty at the same time. I had this soup with some salt and pepper crackers and some local salsa. It was the perfect meal!


4. Greek Wraps. This is one of Travis’ favourite meals that I make and we had it for dinner two nights this week because we both worked late and it was easy to prepare. I will probably post a recipe for the tzatziki I make sometime in the future!

5. Mini Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups. I posted this recipe yesterday and I have had one of these treats every single day this week! They are delicious!


Friday Favourites

This week I have one favourite to share!

1. FitHappy Headbands! I recently purchased two FitHappy headbands and I am in love with them! I had seen great reviews on them on Instagram and Etsy so I thought I would purchase a couple to try out myself because I hate having hair in my face when I am working out. Needless to say, these headbands surpassed my expectations and I have even caught Travis wearing my grey one a few times to keep his hair out of his face! Mini Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups

So I have been meaning to post this recipe for awhile now but sometimes life just gets in the way! Lately, I have been craving a sweet treat which is not that common for me because I consider myself more of a “salty” girl! I have come up with the perfect recipe to satisfy my cravings and that recipe is these chocolate peanut butter cups. They are super simple, only 4 ingredients and the perfect size without being a sugary overkill.


1/2 cup of natural peanut butter
1/4 cup coconut oil
2 tbsp honey
1 tbsp cocoa powder

1. Mix all 4 ingredients together in a small food processor or blender
2. Line a mini muffin tin with mini muffins cupcake liners
3. Spoon 1 tbsp of mixture into each mini muffin liner*
4. Freeze for an hour **
5. Enjoy!
*Makes 12 mini chocolate peanut butter cups
**Store in freezer

Strawberry Banana Pineapple Protein Smoothie

I got off work at about 3:00 pm yesterday and was super hungry by the time I got home. I knew I needed something nutritious, filling, and delicious to help ease my hunger until dinner time. I made this super yummy high protein smoothie and I thought I would share it because it was quick but at the same time full of flavour!



1 scoop vanilla protein powder (I use GNC Pro Performance Whey Iso Burst in French Vanilla Cream )
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 banana
5 frozen strawberries
5 frozen pineapple chunks
1 tbsp honey


1. In a blender, mix until smooth.

Chocolate Banana Peanut Butter Protein Shake

Chocolate and peanut butter… you really cannot go wrong! My go to post-workout protein shake is this delicious chocolate banana peanut butter protein shake. The name may be long but it is a “treat” I always look forward to after my workout!




1 scoop chocolate protein powder (I use GNC Amplified Gold 100% Whey Protein Advanced)
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 banana
1 tbsp PB2 or Natural Peanut Butter
1/4 tsp cinnamon
5 ice cubes


1. In a blender, mix until smooth.

Pico de Gallo

I am definitely hooked on pico de gallo right now! Maybe it is because the tomatoes are so much tastier at this time of year or maybe because everything tastes better when it is summer. Either way this is a recipe everyone should try! I could literally eat it right out of the bowl that’s how much I like it!

Pico de Gallo

3 Tomatoes, I used Roma
1/2 White onion
1/2 Jalepeno
4 Green Onions
3 Garlic Cloves
Juice of 1 Lime
Salt, to taste
Pepper, to taste


Gather all ingredients.


Chop all ingredients up and combine in a bowl.


Mix everything together and let it sit in the fridge for at least an hour!

 This recipe could easily be doubled or tripled and can also be modified. I am not a cilantro lover but I know many people like it in their pico de gallo so that is one modification you could make. Travis and I put this on our taco salad, on our eggs and in our lingcod bowls. It is super tasty and can be paired with many different dishes. I hope you enjoy it!

Almond Milk Hot Cocoa

Hot cocoa is one of my favourite treats! Even though it is spring, the temperatures at night are still quite cold, so last night I whipped up a piping hot mug of almond milk hot cocoa. All the ingredients can likely be found in your kitchen cupboard or pantry!





Almond Milk Hot Cocoa

Yields one cup


2 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder
3/4 tbsp sugar
1 cup almond milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
Dash of salt


1. Heat almond milk in a small saucepan on medium heat until it is just about to simmer
2. Add the cocoa, sugar, vanilla extract and salt into the almond milk and whisk together – make sure mixture does not boil
3. Remove from heat and make sure the hot cocoa is stirred well before serving
4. Pour into mug and enjoy!
