Friday Favourites #4: 03.06.15

Well hello there! I definitely took a blogging vacation because my life took a dramatic turn. I moved home, started a new job, and have been learning who to make long distance work with my boyfriend. I cannot say I am back for good but it is definitely nice to be writing again. Onto the good stuff… I am linking up with Heather at Life in Leggings (loving her new website by the way) to share some favourites in my life at the moment!


The Weather
Holy cow! The weather on the Island has been amazing this past week and a half. It was been 10°C or warmer almost every single day. For those of you who are unaware, the west coast of Canada normally experiences about 8 months of straight grey skys and rain from about September to April. It has been relatively warm and sunny for this time of year and the cherry trees have even started to bloom!

This beautiful weather is supposed to stick around for at least another week and I will definitely be soaking it up as much as possible!

Running Again
I had my first outdoor run of the year on Monday! I know, I know, it isn’t even cold when it is “cold” here but I am not a fan of running in the rain. So now that the weather has taken a turn for the better I strapped on my Mizuno’s and went for a run. It wasn’t long and it wasn’t fast but it was still a run and I felt amazing after. I was amazed at how good I felt when I was done and it made me remember why I used to like running so much. I am going to try and make running a more regular form of exercise in my routine!
Kayla Itsines BBG 1.0
I purchased and started Kayla Itsines BBG 1.0 on January 5 and am now 2/3’s of the way done! The workouts are awesome! They are to be completed 3x a week for around 30 minutes plus 3x a week of LISS or HIIT exercise. You can read about my weeks 1-4 here! Weeks 5-8 were definitely harder for me and I am planning on doing a post very soon to review them. I have missed a few workouts but I am not perfect and for the most part I have been very good. I love the fact that the workouts are somewhat fun and they can be done even when you have little time on your hands and with little equipment!

Sally Hansen Nail Polish
I am a nail polish junky! I have every colour pink imaginable yet I still seem to  want more every time I am at the drugstore and walk by the nail polish aisle. Since Target is closing across Canada (I am super unhappy about this), they have had almost everything in the store on sale. I picked up 3 nail polishes on my last trip to Target and I have not been disappointed.

The first two were the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Polish and Top Coat. Because I am working as a server right now, I am constantly washing my hands and this nail polish has been wonderful. I must admit it is not as good as actual gel polish but I have noticed it chips a lot less than any normal polish. I followed the instructions and did two coats of the colour and one coat of the top coat, making sure to seal the top of my nail with the top coat to minimize chipping. This polish allowed me to go about 3 work shifts before I needed to reapply it. I am sure if I had chosen a lighter colour I could have gotten away with a few more days! It is worth the couple extra dollars in my opinion!

The third nail polish I bought was Sally Hansen Insta-Dry (sorry for the terrible picture). A friend had recommended it to me and basically you put it on your nails about a minute after you put the colour on and it immensely speeds up the drying process! It works and I love it because I hate when I smudge my nails when they are drying!

Kayla Itsines BBG 1.0 Weeks 1-4 Review

Over the past few months I have seen the name Kayla Itsines and her BBG Transformation pictures all over Instagram and Facebook. Many of the transformations I have seen on these social media outlets are draw dropping and inspiring. I know that exercise is not the only thing that helps these girls achieve such amazing transformations and that diet is also a huge factor. That being said, after some thought I decided to purchase Kayla’s Bikini Body Training Guide 1.0 (BBG for short) at the beginning of January. It comes as an ebook and can be downloaded on your computer, phone or tablet, and can even be printed out if that is more convenient for you. I started the guide on January 5th along with thousands of other girls all over the world! To keep motivated and help support one another, the hashtag #thekaylamovement has been created! I think this is such a cool idea to not only push yourself but to push other girls who have the same interests as you all over the world!

The BBG is a 12-week workout plan consisting of three types of training. These include resistance training, cardio training, and rehabilitation (stretching). The amount of each type of training you do varies by week and progressively gets harder as the weeks go on. One of my favourite things about the guide is that the workouts only take 30 minutes and are completed three days a week. LISS or HIIT training is to be done on the days in between Kayla’s workouts and one day per week is completely devoted to stretching. The ultimate goal is to give girls everywhere the bodies they have always desired.

I did not purchase the Bikini Body HELP Guide because I felt that my eating habits are fairly good. Having a Kinesiology minor, I know what to put into my body to fuel it properly and all in all I am happy with my nutrition habits at the moment.

Week 1-4 Review

Wow who knew a month could fly by so quickly! Don’t get me wrong, these workouts were not easy when I started them and to be honest they still have me on the floor dying by the end of them. However, what I love is that they not only challenge you physical but also mentally. My dad always says that the hardest part of exercising is putting on your shorts and I think that is so true. Once you are dressed and prepared for your workout, you are more likely to follow through with it. There have been many days since starting the BBG that I have not wanted to do it, or I have wanted to give up halfway, but I haven’t. I have persevered and in my opinion this is making me stronger mentally as well.

Now that I have made it through the first month of exercises, I have also noticed that I am a lot less sore after the workouts than I was when I first started. Leg day was torture for me and I would dread walking up stairs the day after. I can tell I am getting stronger though because as I said, I am far less sore after the workouts and at the same time I am still giving the same intensity in the workouts or even more. I know that the exercises get harder as each week passes but you also build up a stamina to be able to keep up. This allows you to push yourself even harder as time goes on.

After 4 weeks I have noticed some changes physically and mentally. My stomach is starting to become more toned and I can seeing my legs becoming stronger as well. I also feel like I have more energy (especially a few hours after the workouts) and I am sleeping better. I will do an 8 week update to share my thoughts and results at that time!
