Friday Favourites #2: 10.24.14

Happy Friday! I have not been able to keep consistently blogging because life keeps getting in the way! I recently graduated (read about it here) and have been working 5 days a week as a server ever since. If anyone has ever worked as a server, you will understand when I say how exhausting it is. Between the split shifts, dinner rushes, and weekend shifts, I find my main priority for staying sane is sleep and exercise, so blogging has been put on the back burner. I hope to create a schedule in the next week or so to organize my life to make it a little less chaotic! Anyways…I have decided to link up with Heather at Housewife Glamour on this fine Friday for some of my Friday Favourites!

– Turkey Bacon

This stuff is delicious! I don’t know why I haven’t bought it before! I originally tried it at one of my girlfriends places two summers back but haven’t eaten it since. I decided to buy some the other day and I love how crispy it get when I make it in the microwave!

– Dinner Dates
IMG_0075Travis and I finally got to go celebrate his birthday this past weekend! His birthday was almost a month ago but between me working and him being away with football we barely see each other! We went to Red Robin (not my choice lol) and Travis was in heaven with the stack of onion rings and the burger he got! I will be very happy to be able to spend more time with him once football season ends! This weekend is their last away game and after that they have three home games. So there is about 1 month until the season is over!

– Hair, Skin and Nails Formula
IMG_0121I love this stuff! I was taking only biotin before I got this product and I can definitely see a difference in my hair and nails since I have started taking this! This has biotin in it, along with other vitamins that are beneficial for hair, skin and nails. My nails are growing like weeds and are much stronger than they have ever been! I have the type of nails that peel and are very thin and this has helped reduce the peeling and increase their strength.

– Wheat Thins Popped

IMG_0120Anyone who knows me, know I love chips, crackers and just about anything salty. I have seen these Wheat Thins Popped floating around the blogosphere and was super excited to try them when I saw them in my local grocery store the other week! There are a definite win! They are a cross between a cracker and a chip and the flavour was great! Even Travis liked them and he isn’t a huge chip fan!

– NuGo Bars

I popped into the drugstore near my work to see if I could pick up a protein bar to snack on during my shift. I ended buying a couple  NuGo bars, mainly because of the price, but I was pleasantly surprised with how much I liked them. This flavour, chocolate pretzel, was my favourite because it was salty and sweet! I will be buying some more of these to keep on me whenever I need a quick, convienent snack.

– Mind Over Matter
IMG_0041I personally love this picture. I had a nasty stomach flu a few weeks back and I feel I am just starting to return to my normal self. I wanted to sleep in everyday this week but instead I knew I needed to get up and have my life return back to normal. I was able to complete all my workouts before work this week which made me super happy because I know I most likely won’t workout after my shift. To a certain extent, your mind dictates whether or not you can do something. This picture is simple, yet straight to the point!

Five Things Friday #14

We are well into September and this has become apparent here on the west coast with the sudden weather change. We have had rain for the past few days but we are supposed to get one more warm weekend before Fall really starts and I am quite ok with this. 5 Things Making Me Happy

1. Football season is back. Three years ago I never thought I would be saying I am happy football season is back but since starting to date my boyfriend I have really grown to love the sport. He is currently working for the football team at the university we both attended and I love going to watch the games (especially when the weather is nice)!

2. I have taught myself how to crochet! Travis has been calling me a grandma but I actually love it! This is a toque (beanie) I recently crocheted!

3. I get to see my parents in less than 3 weeks! I haven’t seen them since the beginning of August but they will be coming over for my convocation! I can’t wait!

4. I am going back to high school! I recently finished my degree but right now I am upgrading some high school courses in order to hopefully apply for further schooling in the future!

5. Taylor Swifts song “Shake it Off“. I know I am a few weeks behind on discovering this song but I am absolutely obsessed!

5 Things I Ate/Drank

1. Pumpkin Muffins with Cream Cheese Filling. I cannot express to you how good these are! I two batches in three days because my boyfriend kept bringing them to share with his friends because they were so good! I even received some texts from his friends telling me how much they liked the muffins! The recipe I used can be found here and I followed it exactly as it appears. These muffins are seriously the bomb dot com!

2. Chai Tea. Since the weather has become cooler I have had chai tea every day. Something about chai screams Fall to me.

3. Amy’s Organic Lentil Vegetable Soup. I am a soup lover and this is the perfect chunky soup that is quick to prepare and tasty at the same time. I had this soup with some salt and pepper crackers and some local salsa. It was the perfect meal!

4. Greek Wraps. This is one of Travis’ favourite meals that I make and we had it for dinner two nights this week because we both worked late and it was easy to prepare. I will probably post a recipe for the tzatziki I make sometime in the future!

5. Mini Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups. I posted this recipe yesterday and I have had one of these treats every single day this week! They are delicious!

Friday Favourites

This week I have one favourite to share!

1. FitHappy Headbands! I recently purchased two FitHappy headbands and I am in love with them! I had seen great reviews on them on Instagram and Etsy so I thought I would purchase a couple to try out myself because I hate having hair in my face when I am working out. Needless to say, these headbands surpassed my expectations and I have even caught Travis wearing my grey one a few times to keep his hair out of his face! Mini Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups

So I have been meaning to post this recipe for awhile now but sometimes life just gets in the way! Lately, I have been craving a sweet treat which is not that common for me because I consider myself more of a “salty” girl! I have come up with the perfect recipe to satisfy my cravings and that recipe is these chocolate peanut butter cups. They are super simple, only 4 ingredients and the perfect size without being a sugary overkill.

Ingredients
1/2 cup of natural peanut butter
1/4 cup coconut oil
2 tbsp honey
1 tbsp cocoa powder

Instructions
1. Mix all 4 ingredients together in a small food processor or blender
2. Line a mini muffin tin with mini muffins cupcake liners
3. Spoon 1 tbsp of mixture into each mini muffin liner*
4. Freeze for an hour **
5. Enjoy!
*Makes 12 mini chocolate peanut butter cups
**Store in freezer

Chocolate Banana Peanut Butter Protein Shake

Chocolate and peanut butter… you really cannot go wrong! My go to post-workout protein shake is this delicious chocolate banana peanut butter protein shake. The name may be long but it is a “treat” I always look forward to after my workout!

Ingredients 

1 scoop chocolate protein powder (I use GNC Amplified Gold 100% Whey Protein Advanced)
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 banana
1 tbsp PB2 or Natural Peanut Butter
1/4 tsp cinnamon
5 ice cubes

Instructions

1. In a blender, mix until smooth.

Happy Friday! It’s that time of the week again and I am linking up with Clare for another Five Things Friday Post! These past few weeks have been going by so fast and my Friday posts are the only one’s I can seem to keep up with on a regular basis! I definitely need to expand my horizons and make more time for blogging because it is so fun!

Five Things Making Me Happy This Week

1. This article that was being shared on Facebook called 60 Little Tips That Can Change a Girls Life. I love lists and articles like this and this article in particular has some very good ideas in it!

2. I got my haircut! I hadn’t had my haircut since probably November and I was in desperate need of a trim. I ended up having all the dead ends taken off and it is so much healthier than it was before!

3. Catching up with old friends. The girl who cut my hair is actually an old friend I used to dance with on the island. We hadn’t seen each other in a few months and we went to dinner before she cut my hair and it was lovely to catch up with her!

4. Tennis. Travis dragged me to the tennis courts yesterday here at SFU and although I do need to work on my skills, we had a blast! I did not realize how much running you do while playing tennis. No wonder professional tennis players are such incredible athletes!

5. It’s a long weekend! Monday is Victoria Day which means it is a three day weekend! The weather is not supposed to be too promising but I am hoping Monday will be nice because Travis and I want to go on an adventure! We are thinking of biking the seawall if the weather permits!

Five Things I Ate This Week

1. Salmon Lox and Cream Cheese on an English Muffin. I think I have mentioned this before but it is just so tasty!

2. Skinny Thai Noodle Salad from Eats from the Oil Patch. OH MY GOODNESS this salad is amazing! I made it the other day and devoured it in two days. Ps. I have made a few of her recipes and they are all delicious so I highly recommend you check this blog out!

3. Quesada. This restaurant is similar to Chipotle and is located on campus at SFU. Travis and I shared one of their burrito bowls and it was delicious. They make the actual bowl right in front of you and the portions are huge. The owner is also very friendly and this is a huge plus in my books!

4.  Frozen Yogurt. Since the weather has taken a turn for the better Travis and I treated ourselves to fro yo one night and we both were in heaven! Travis has a huge sweet tooth and I love frozen treats so we both couldn’t resist!

5. Mini Peanut Butter Cups from Simply Made. My mom introduced me to this website and her recipes are amazing! I did alter this recipe a little bit and I also didn’t have mini muffin cups so I froze the inside and then covered them in the chocolate after. They are the perfect sweet treat!
