Fall 2014 Workout Playlist

I am a day late but it is officially Fall! It is the time of year where I cannot get enough of chunky sweaters, boots, tea, anything pumpkin and always being cozy! I also find that at this time of year I need extra motivation to workout. That being said I created a playlist to jumpstart my workouts and I thought I would share it so that others can enjoy it too!

Five Things Friday #14

We are well into September and this has become apparent here on the west coast with the sudden weather change. We have had rain for the past few days but we are supposed to get one more warm weekend before Fall really starts and I am quite ok with this. I will be doing another link up with Clare for Five Things Friday and Heather for Friday Favourites. Thanks ladies for hosting!

5 Things Making Me Happy

1. Football season is back. Three years ago I never thought I would be saying I am happy football season is back but since starting to date my boyfriend I have really grown to love the sport. He is currently working for the football team at the university we both attended and I love going to watch the games (especially when the weather is nice)!

2. I have taught myself how to crochet! Travis has been calling me a grandma but I actually love it! This is a toque (beanie) I recently crocheted!

3. I get to see my parents in less than 3 weeks! I haven’t seen them since the beginning of August but they will be coming over for my convocation! I can’t wait!

4. I am going back to high school! I recently finished my degree but right now I am upgrading some high school courses in order to hopefully apply for further schooling in the future!

5. Taylor Swifts song “Shake it Off“. I know I am a few weeks behind on discovering this song but I am absolutely obsessed!

5 Things I Ate/Drank

1. Pumpkin Muffins with Cream Cheese Filling. I cannot express to you how good these are! I two batches in three days because my boyfriend kept bringing them to share with his friends because they were so good! I even received some texts from his friends telling me how much they liked the muffins! The recipe I used can be found here and I followed it exactly as it appears. These muffins are seriously the bomb dot com!

2. Chai Tea. Since the weather has become cooler I have had chai tea every day. Something about chai screams Fall to me.

3. Amy’s Organic Lentil Vegetable Soup. I am a soup lover and this is the perfect chunky soup that is quick to prepare and tasty at the same time. I had this soup with some salt and pepper crackers and some local salsa. It was the perfect meal!

4. Greek Wraps. This is one of Travis’ favourite meals that I make and we had it for dinner two nights this week because we both worked late and it was easy to prepare. I will probably post a recipe for the tzatziki I make sometime in the future!

5. Mini Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups. I posted this recipe yesterday and I have had one of these treats every single day this week! They are delicious!

Friday Favourites

This week I have one favourite to share!

1. FitHappy Headbands! I recently purchased two FitHappy headbands and I am in love with them! I had seen great reviews on them on Instagram and Etsy so I thought I would purchase a couple to try out myself because I hate having hair in my face when I am working out. Needless to say, these headbands surpassed my expectations and I have even caught Travis wearing my grey one a few times to keep his hair out of his face! Mini Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups

So I have been meaning to post this recipe for awhile now but sometimes life just gets in the way! Lately, I have been craving a sweet treat which is not that common for me because I consider myself more of a “salty” girl! I have come up with the perfect recipe to satisfy my cravings and that recipe is these chocolate peanut butter cups. They are super simple, only 4 ingredients and the perfect size without being a sugary overkill.

Ingredients
1/2 cup of natural peanut butter
1/4 cup coconut oil
2 tbsp honey
1 tbsp cocoa powder

Instructions
1. Mix all 4 ingredients together in a small food processor or blender
2. Line a mini muffin tin with mini muffins cupcake liners
3. Spoon 1 tbsp of mixture into each mini muffin liner*
4. Freeze for an hour **
5. Enjoy!
*Makes 12 mini chocolate peanut butter cups
**Store in freezer

Five Things Friday #13

How is it already the last Friday in August!? This summer has gone by waaayyyy too fast! I would definitely not complain if we had a few more weeks of warm weather before the west coast of Canada experiences 8 months of grey sky and rain. That being said, I am excited to see what Fall has to bring in terms of my future! Since it is the last Friday of summer I decided to switch things up! I will still be linking up with Clare for Five Things Friday, but I also wanted to link up with Heather for Friday Favourites (notice how I put the “u” in favourites since I am Canadian hehe) to showcase some of my favourite things in my life this week!

Five Things Making Me Happy!

1. Having the gym to myself. I went to my school gym last weekend and I was literally the only person in there. It was so nice to be able to do whatever exercise I wanted, when I wanted! That never happens!

2. I completed the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge and donated to this very worthy cause! I am sure everyone has seen these videos everywhere on Facebook. ALS is a very devastating disease and to whoever started the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge I applaud you for using social media in such a positive way.  I hope that the money raised will help support those affected by ALS, their families and everyone who will be affected in the future. Here is a still shot of me having the water poured on my head!

3. The new Davids Tea Fall Collection. I got the email the other day that this new collection has launched and I cannot wait to buy it! I am hoping Meg at A Dash of Meg will do a review on it soon because I really value her advice and preferences when it comes to tea! She is definitely the queen of tea! #teawithmeg

4. My two and a half year anniversary with Travis is today! We haven’t seen a lot of one another lately even though we live together. He has been very busy with work because it is the beginning of football season so I am hoping we will get to celebrate in the next few weeks once our schedules aren’t so busy!

5. Treats from friends. One of my really good friends brought Travis and I goodies that she made. She brought us homemade cinnamon buns, two types of cupcakes, brownies, and lavender bread. Everything was delicious!

Friday Favourites!

  • St. Tropez Self Tan Brozing Mousse! Let me start off by saying I am naturally a VERY pale person. I do not tan easily and I tend to burn if I am in the sun without sunscreen in as little as half an hour. That being said, being pale isn’t in right now, especially in the summer. My go to tanning mousse is this one by St. Tropez. I have been using it for years and it has never left me streaky, smelly, or orange.

  • Baptiste Dry Shampoo for Dark Hair! I am very lucky to not have super greasy hair for how fine and thin my hair is! However, when I do need an extra “oomph” to my ‘do or want to freshen up my hair I use this Baptiste dry shampoo. I usually put it on before bed and when I sleep it disperses evenly so that when I wake up my hair looks refreshed! Also, because it is for dark hair, you don’t have that dusty whitish look to your hair that can occur with other dry shampoos that are white.

  • Rivalus Complx5 Pre-workout! I love this pre-workout! Lately, I have been trying to avoid caffeine because I find I am easily affected by it, so I switched to a pre-workout that contains no caffeine. This pre-workout by Rivalus contains 5 main ingredients, sodium bicarbonate, n-acetyl-tyrosine, arginine, beta-alanine, and red ginseng. I would describe it as giving you more of a “pump” feeling than a “burst of energy” feeling, which I actually prefer if I am going to strength train. I purchased the orange flavour but I will probably try the lemon-lime flavour next just to switch things up!

Strawberry Banana Pineapple Protein Smoothie

I got off work at about 3:00 pm yesterday and was super hungry by the time I got home. I knew I needed something nutritious, filling, and delicious to help ease my hunger until dinner time. I made this super yummy high protein smoothie and I thought I would share it because it was quick but at the same time full of flavour!

Ingredients 

1 scoop vanilla protein powder (I use GNC Pro Performance Whey Iso Burst in French Vanilla Cream )
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 banana
5 frozen strawberries
5 frozen pineapple chunks
1 tbsp honey

Instructions

1. In a blender, mix until smooth.

Enjoy!

Chocolate Banana Peanut Butter Protein Shake

Chocolate and peanut butter… you really cannot go wrong! My go to post-workout protein shake is this delicious chocolate banana peanut butter protein shake. The name may be long but it is a “treat” I always look forward to after my workout!

Ingredients 

1 scoop chocolate protein powder (I use GNC Amplified Gold 100% Whey Protein Advanced)
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 banana
1 tbsp PB2 or Natural Peanut Butter
1/4 tsp cinnamon
5 ice cubes

Instructions

1. In a blender, mix until smooth.

Five Things Friday #12

Hello! I haven’t been on here in a little while and decided today was a good day to post about a few things that are going on in my life! I will linking up with Clare for another Five Things Friday!

5 Things Making Me Happy!

1. I finished my undergraduate (hopefully)! I had my last exam on Friday and have received my final grade for the class. Now I am just waiting for the Senate to approve my graduation application. I took three classes this summer in order to complete my degree by the end of the summer and while it was frustrating and tiresome at times, I am so happy I took these courses. I hope to be walking the stage in October at my university’s convocation!

2. I got to go home and surprise my mom for her birthday! While it was a very short visit, it was nice to be home. My mom ended up coming back to the mainland with me and stayed the night. She also got to visit some friends she hadn’t seen in awhile and I know she enjoyed her visit, as did I!

3. My hair is growing! I got a good couple inches chopped off my hair about two months ago and right around the same time I got my hair cut, I started taking 1000 mcg of biotin daily. I am not entirely sure it is helping my hair grow but it definitely seems to be breaking less which is especially good for me, because my hair is so thin!

4. I got to be a part of Vancouver’s Pride Parade. (This actually took place the first week of August but I haven’t seen blogging regularly so I thought I would throw it in.) I volunteered with the Canadian Cancer Society and got to actually be in the parade this year. Last year I helped out at the booth, educating the public about the importance of early detection for cancer and the importance of protection. This year, a friend and I decided we wanted to be in the parade and let me tell you it was crazy! I was so tired by the end of it but it was really fun!

5. Bike rides! Living on a mountain has its advantages and disadvantages. One of the disadvantages is that there is really no place to run or bike. When I was at home on the island I went for a bike ride with my mom and it made me realize how much I love to bike. Not only is it good exercise, but I like the fact that you get to cover a great distance in a short period of time.

5 Foods I ate!

1. I have been obsessed with Laughing Cow cheese lately so this has been my go to meal for the past week. Laughing cow cheese, homegrown tomatoes, green onions and S&P on a toasted ciabatta bun.

2. Steak and grilled veggies. When I was home this weekend for my mom’s birthday I got to enjoy barbecued steak and grilled veggies. I do not have a grill or a deck at my apartment so this was definitely a treat!

3. Zucchini blueberry lemon muffins. These were good but they still need tweaking before I post a recipe! Check back soon for one!

4. Quest bars. I finally caved a bought a box of the chocolate chip cookie dough bars and a box of the cookies and cream bars and I have been snacking on these ever since I bought them. They are the perfect sweet treat to satisfy my cravings!

5. Homemade blueberry pancakes. Travis has been working a lot lately so I try and get up early to at least make him a smoothie or something for breakfast before he runs out the door. Lately he has been asking me to make homemade blueberry pancakes and I have made them a few times in the last couple of weeks at his request!
